The University of Cape Town invites you to a public lecture by FSCA Commissioner Unathi Kamlana

Mr. Unathi Kamlana is the Commissioner of the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA), a position he has held since 1 June 2021. In this role, he chairs the FSCA executive committee and leads the organization in the execution of its mandate to protect financial customers, promote market integrity, and advance financial inclusion and literacy. 

Before joining the FSCA, Mr. Kamlana held several senior leadership positions in financial sector policy and regulation. He served as Chief Director: Financial Markets & Stability at South Africa’s National Treasury, Deputy Registrar of Banks; and later Head: Policy, Statistics & Industry Support Department at the Prudential Authority within the SARB. 

He also serves on the Board of South Africa’s Ombud Council and the Corporation for Deposit Insurance (CODI), where he is the Vice-Chairperson. He also represents the FSCA on international platforms, including as a member of the Financial Stability Board’s Regional Consultative Group for Sub-Saharan Africa (RCG SSA) and the General Council of the Southern African Development Community’s Committee of Insurance, Securities and Non-Banking Financial Authorities (CISNA). 

Mr. Kamlana holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Economics & Information Systems, and a Master of Commerce in Taxation from Rhodes University, a Postgraduate Diploma in Tax Law (HDip. Tax) from Wits University, and a Master of Science in Finance (Economic Policy) from the University of London, School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS).
