Prof Haroon Bhorat appointed to World Bank Commision on Global Poverty

We are very proud to announce that Prof Haroon Bhorat has been appointed as a member of the World Bank’s Commission on Global Poverty.

The World Bank’s Chief Economist, Kaushik Basu, announced on the 23rd June 2015, the launch of a new Commission on Global Poverty to report on the best ways to measure and monitor poverty around the world and help the World Bank Group achieve its twin goals and also track other forms of poverty and deprivation. The new Commission is made up of 24 leading international economists. This is the latest in a string of high-profile international appointments for Haroon, that include a posting as Head of Research, in the Secretariat to the High-Level Panel of Eminent Persons for the Post-2015 MDG Agenda, UNDP (New York), and as a Member of the Expert Working Group for Labour Rights & Legal Empowerment, in the High Level Commission for Legal Empowerment of the Poor, United Nations. 

He will sit with illustrious advisory group members such as the Chair, Tony Atkinson of Oxford University & London School of Economics, Amartya Sen of Harvard University, Francisco Ferreira of the World Bank, Martin Ravallion of Georgetown University, and Ravi Kanbur of Cornell University, among others.
