WEF Transformation Map: South Africa

The World Economic Forum’s Transformation Map on South Africa, authored and co-curated by the DPRU, is now live and accessible to the 30,000 or so Forum constituents and the 18,000 or so public users, who have signed up since the public launch in November 2017.  

The World Economic Forum’s Transformation Map on South Africa, co-curated by the DPRU, is now live and accessible to the 30,000 or so Forum constituents and the 18,000 or so public users who have signed up since the public launch in November last year.   

DPRU Director, Prof Haroon Bhorat, is a member of the Forum’s Expert Network (consisting of 5000+ top academics and leaders around the world in business, government, civil society, academia and the arts and culture). The DPRU was invited to produce an entirely new version of the South Africa map, and authored content for 9 key issues or “insight areas”. The summaries highlight the main drivers of structural transformation in the country, and include: spatial integration, education and skills, poverty and inequality, and governance and institutions, etc.

Brief background: The Transformation Maps are a dynamic system of contextual intelligence covering 100+ topics, aimed at enabling more informed decision-making by leaders in government, business, civil society, academia and in the arts and media. They allow the Forum and its co-curation partners to capture, augment and deploy the insight and knowledge generated by the co-curators as well as at Forum summits and meetings, and through Forum projects. This is then made available to all of the Forum’s constituents via the Forum’s TopLink website.

The Forum is currently co-curating transformation maps with a number of universities, think tanks and international and non-governmental organizations, including the Inter-American Development Bank, the International Organization for Migration, the Global Initiative against Transnational Organized Crime, MIT, and the University of Oxford.
