Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) in partnership with Kaya FM 95.9, is producing a series of podcasts, moderated by renowned journalist and radio presenter John Perlman, which will focus on the COVID-19 pandemic and how it impacts on our future. In this series experts, futurists and independent thinkers will be asked about the potential impact the pandemic has on our future and what lessons we can learn.

Prof. Haroon Bhorat, DPRU Director, has been invited to participate as a guest speaker in the first podcast on the theme Economic Justice, live on the Today with John Perlman show on Kaya FM, on Wednesday 13 May 2020 at 10h00.

The COVID-19 pandemic poses not only a global health crisis but also an economic crisis, which has exposed the weaknesses, social injustices and environmental costs of capitalism and a free market economy. Many call for a new economic model, a restructuring of South Africa's economy in order to become more inclusive, socially just and environmentally sustainable. What needs to change in order to achieve this and what economic model, i.e. Social Market Economy as practiced in Germany, would be best suited for this task?

The next two podcasts in this series will deal with the themes: 2. Governance and 3. International Relations.
