Francis Wilson Memorial Prize awarded to Tim Köhler
Congratulations to Tim Köhler, Junior Research Fellow at the DPRU and PhD candidate, UCT School of Economics, who has been awarded the Francis Wilson memorial article prize for his paper “Lockdown stringency and employment formality: evidence from the COVID-19 pandemic in South Africa”. The paper forms part of Tim's PhD thesis.
UCT postgraduates are awarded the Francis Wilson Memorial Prize for data-driven research in the area of development. Emeritus Professor David Lam, a member of the three-person panel of international adjudicators, presented the prize for the best article published in a peer-reviewed journal, to Tim and his co-authors, Benjamin Stanwix, Robert Hill and Prof. Haroon Bhorat on Tuesday, 16 April 2024.
The prize was presented as part of the second annual Francis Wilson Memorial Lecture at the University of Cape Town (UCT) delivered by former finance minister Trevor Manuel. The event was hosted in association with the Southern Africa Labour and Development Research Unit (SALDRU) and research data service unit DataFirst, both based at UCT.
