UCT Press relaunch - featuring "Fighting Poverty: Labour markets and inequality in SA"
Co-authored by Prof. Haroon Bhorat, "Fighting poverty: Labour markets and inequality in South Africa" is available via open access, and features in today's relaunch of UCT Press.
Originally published in 2001, the book explored the links between labour market participation and household poverty and inequality; analysed the nature and functioning of vulnerability in the labour market; and used new (at the time) techniques to measure and analyse household inequality and poverty in South Africa. Prof. Bhorat's co-authors and co-editors included Murray Leibbrandt; Muzi Maziya; Servaas van der Berg and Ingrid Woolard.
Unquestionably, poverty and inequality persist as major challenges that face South Africa, meaning that this comprehensive volume remains highly relevant, and still offers valid proposals for the development of new and effective strategies to fight poverty in South Africa.

Launched in 1994, UCT Press has a proud history as one of the institution’s outlets for scholarly publishing. After more than 25 years under the management of publishing house Juta & Company, UCT Press has been brought home and is being relaunched through the UCT Libraries. The UCT Press will take on both a print media and an Open Access mode, with print on demand. The open access movement is reimagining the academic publishing world as the demand for publicly funded research to be made publicly available grows and technological innovations make this kind of accessibility achievable.
