Prof Shakill Hassan

Shakill Hassan is Senior Economist in the Emerging Economies Division of the IMF’s European Department. He was previously in the IMF’s Strategy, Policy, and Review Department, with country desk assignments to Iceland, Mongolia, Chile, and Brazil. Before joining the Fund, he was Lead Economist and Assistant General Manager at the South African Reserve Bank’s Monetary Policy Research Unit, and an Associate Professor in economics and finance at the University of Cape Town. His research interests include capital and commodity markets, monetary policy, theory of industrial organization, and climate change. Shakill is a graduate of the University of Cape Town (with distinction), LSE (with distinction), and Cambridge University.
