Mark Heywood is Adjunct Professor at the Nelson Mandela School. Professor Heywood is one of South Africa’s most experienced and respected social justice activists with a track record of human rights activism spanning over thirty years. He has a rare combination of experiences: as an organiser and organisation builder; a writer; a teacher and public speaker and a public intellectual and thought-leader. He co-founded and then led for many years two of the most influential human rights organisations in post-apartheid South Africa, the Treatment Action Campaign and SECTION27.
