Dr Sean Phillips
Sean Phillips is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the Nelson Mandela School. Dr Phillips has honours, masters and PhD degrees in engineering and a Master of Management in public and development management. He has spent 20 years working in senior management positions in the South African government. He was Head of Department of the Limpopo Department of Public Works and Roads, Managing Director of the Johannesburg Roads Agency, and Chief Operations Officer of the national Department of Public Works. He also spent five years as the Director General of the Department of Performance Monitoring and Evaluation in the Presidency. Recently, he worked on the Infrastructure Fund, based at the Development Bank of Southern Africa, as well as on expediting economic structural reforms through Operation Vulindlela in the National Treasury. His academic experience includes two years as a Research Fellow in the Civil Engineering Department at the University of the Witwatersrand, as well as part-time lecturing for Executive Education programmes of the School of Governance at the University of the Witwatersrand and the Enterprises unit of the University of Pretoria.
