Vacancy: Programme Assistant – MPhil Programme
Programme Assistant - MPhil Programme (T1 Conditions)
Key responsibilities include:
- Attending all of the intensive sessions in the MPhil programme, building relationships with the students, and taking on academic support tasks as required. There are four periods of face to face learning each year (14-16 days each) – two for the first years and two for the second years
- Setting up all courses on Vula in the required format, including detailed course outlines, assignment requirements and resources
- Liaising with the Academic Director and Postgraduate Programme Manager to finalise timetables for each semester and ensuring that sessions on academic writing and other academic conventions are included
- Liaising with the Academic Director, programme and lecturers to create readers for each course
- Developing course packs for each semester in conjunction with the PG Programme Manager, containing academic, scholarship and university information to students
- Developing course evaluations for each semester and collating student feedback
- Training students and contract staff in the use of VULA
- Supporting the management of the Post Graduate Programme Database
- Participating in website management and communications which relates to the MPhil Programme page and activities
- Participating in proposal writing activities by supporting the Academic director and Programme Manager with any information
- Supporting the programme in terms of report writing for UCT and other stakeholders and donors that may require reports
- Participating and supporting the post graduate programme with any potential budgeting information and monitoring of activity under the supervision of the Programme Manager
- Organising welcome and other social events for the students during the intensive blocks, as appropriate
The Programme Assistant should have the following attributes:
- Master’s degree in a related field;
- Keen interest in development issues and willingness to expand knowledge and skills is this area;
- Experience in distance learning methods would be a positive advantage – alternatively, willingness to learn and develop such skills;
- Experience in and comfort with computers and social media (web skills would be an advantage);
- Very strong interpersonal skills:
- Proven ability to build and maintain positive working relationships
- Appetite for work and learning
- Absolute reliability
- Discretion
