APPLY: Master’s in Development Policy and Practice (Part-Time)
The University of Cape Town’s Nelson Mandela School of Public Governance (previously the Graduate School of Development Policy and Practice) offers a part-time professional master’s degree with a focus on strategic and public leadership in Africa.
The professional master’s degree course is a unique opportunity for mid-career African professionals, as it is offered in two fortnight long tuition blocks annually over two years. This means that the applicants do not have to reside in Cape Town.
The Mandela School strongly encourages applications from across the continent and commits to ensuring equal representation between South African and broader continental participation.
The coursework component addresses the challenge of designing and implementing new programmes, with the globally-recognised faculty bringing a rich combination of research and practical experience at senior levels of policy making to the classroom. Participants are also encouraged to undertake applied research in public policy design and implementation.
Overall, the degree will strengthen students’ capacity to analyse policy outcomes, increase leadership skills and undertake rigorous research.
Entrance requirements: an honour’s degree and five years’ professional experience, with an orientation towards public service. Preference will be given to senior public officials, civil society and non-profit sector leaders.
