Webinar Series: Africa’s response to COVID-19.
African countries are acting and preparing for the rapid spread of the virus. African leaders, NGOs and Academics are calling for increased cooperation across the continent and the globe in a spirit of ubuntu to address the challenges of COVID-19.
The Chairperson of the African Union has appointed Special Envoys to coordinate the mobilization of resources to support African countries manage this multifold crisis.
The objective of the first webinar is to connect with our alumni, current students, researchers, academics and policy makers on the African continent and engage on the impact of the health and socio-economic crisis.
Carlos Lopes, former Executive Director of the Economic Commission for Africa, and currently an Honorary Professor at the Mandela School will provide a briefing on how COVID-19 is impacting on countries in Africa.
Alan Hirsch, a member of the South African Presidents Economic Advisory Group, will speak on the measures being taken in South Africa to address the socio-economic challenges
Trevor Manuel, an Honorary Professor at the Nelson Mandela School of Public Governance and the former Minister of Finance of South Africa, will speak on the role of the special envoys.
We are keen to hear from you on your experiences and that of your community and country in responding to the COVID-19 crisis. So, much of the time will be given to the participants.
