Dr Deirdre Margo Rule

Senior Lecturer

Dr Deirdre Margo Rule is a Senior Lecturer at the Nelson Mandela School of Public Governance at the University of Cape Town (UCT). Her teaching focuses on research and programme evaluation methodologies. She holds a Bachelor of Business Science in Marketing (Honours), an MPhil in Programme Evaluation, and a PhD in Social Development from UCT. Her doctorate investigated child sexual abuse reporting intentions and behavior amongst South African teachers. Dr Rule gained relevant practitioner research experience through various contexts, including: Business research where she conducted research on market segmentation, competition analysis and advertising media; Civil society research and evaluation of social interventions and programs; Academic and curriculum research at UCT and the College of Cape Town; as well as in Public sector research at the Department of Social Development where she reported on trends in performance information and social needs in the Western Cape. She has a strong interest in academic research specifically its adherence to research integrity and ethics as well as the scholarship of teaching and learning. Dr Rule is passionate about assisting others’ scholarly research journeys in terms of her teaching and postgraduate student supervision as well as collaborative research projects with students and fellow academics, regionally and globally.
