Regional Economic Development one-day Follow Up Workshops

One day follow up sessions were organised early this year to support these processes. The intention was to refresh participants' knowledge of the key concepts introduced in the course as well as to introduce other stakeholders and colleagues to these concepts.

The initial course only covered the Western Cape, KwaZulu Natal and Gauteng, but due to demand a one-day workshop was also conducted in the Eastern Cape during the follow up stage.
While each workshop was tailored to the specific region there was common ground on a number of points concerning regional economic development:
- Collaboration and partnership lie at the heart of regional economic processes and require a new skills set, related to influence, rather than command.
- Understanding social and economic processes is key to successful regional processes. Emerging leaders need to be equipped with the requisite social and economic development knowledge and skills.
- Clusters are a core tool in regional processes. Cluster development skills need to be deepened.
