Over the past few years the growth of inequalities has emerged as the biggest social challenge of our times. Inequalities are surely rooted in huge economic divisions, which cascade into pervasive social, political and cultural divides. To address these challenges we need to link the best research with innovative teaching and leadership programmes.

I am therefore thrilled to be the initial Academic Director of the Atlantic Fellows programme at the International Inequalities Institute. This is a uniquely exciting opportunity to make a difference.

I am very pleased to extend a warm welcome to anyone interested in finding out more about our plans. Are you a potential Fellow? Are you someone committed to challenging inequality who wishes to study amongst like-minded people and gain the academic and practical skills to enhance your powers?

The Atlantic Fellows programme will allow funding for 600 Fellows over the next 20 years, this will be a remarkable opportunity to become part of the largest and most visible global network of campaigners against inequality. We have carefully designed three linked programmes aimed at different kinds of potential Fellows.

Some of you might be seeking a route which involves studying for our MSc degree in Inequalities and Social Science as part of your Fellowship. Others of you might want a more focused series of short courses and summer schools.

Still others may be experienced academics, professionals and leaders who wish to work on an advanced project together. Our unique combination of residential, non-residential and visiting Atlantic Fellowships will appeal to you.

If you think you might be interested in being a Fellow, please be patient! We will be making information available about our three kinds of Fellowships, and how to apply for them, by October, so please watch our website. We will be recruiting our first cohort of Fellows in 2017.

Are you member or activist of an organisation or group concerned with inequality? If so, you might be able to become a collaborating partner in our programme, assisting with recruitment and projects. We plan to co-ordinate an international network concerned to challenge inequalities. By all means make contact with me if you wish to discuss possible collaboration, and also watch for further announcements on our website about collaborative possibilities.

The Atlantic Fellows programme will be working as part of the III to support a compelling research and teaching platform which will command attention across the globe. We are in a very fast development period over the coming months, so please watch our website for news, and do contact me directly if you have any thoughts about how you might participate in our work.
