Professional Programme

The Assessment of Professional Competence is the final academic requirement to qualifying as a CA(SA). The APC is a case study assessment that focus on professional skills, requiring you to apply the technical competence you have already demonstrated at university and in the IAC to a scenario that simulates the real-life expectations placed on a newly-qualified CA(SA).

Please note: The information in the above video currently pertains to the 2025 APC Professional Programme offering. The updated video will be available here by the end of November 2025.

Our programme is about more than just passing an exam, it is designed to grow your professional competence and set you up for the next stage in your career.

We provide you with the maximum level of flexibility together with maximum opportunity for engagement with the programme material and the academic team.

To help you prepare for the 2026 SAICA APC, we offer two distinct options: the Full Professional Programme and the Repeat Offering.

Full Professional Programme:

Who is it for?

  • First-time APC candidates in 2026
  • Candidates who completed a professional programme with a different provider
  • Candidates with a UCT letter of successful completion from 2023 or earlier (no longer valid)
  • Candidates who successfully completed the UCT APC Professional Programme in 2024 or 2025 (still have eligibility to write the 2026 SAICA APC), but wishes to redo everything

Important dates:

  • Registrations open on Monday, 2 February 2026
  • Registrations close on Friday, 27 February 2026 and no late registrations will be accepted
  • Programme fee is R17 800 and due before 31 March 2026
  • Programme will officially commence on Monday, 2 March 2026

Repeat Offering:

Who is it for?

  • Only for candidates who successfully completed the UCT APC Professional Programme in 2024 or 2025 but did not pass the 2025 SAICA APC.

Key Features:

  • A suite of support services to aid in your repeat attempt
  • Offered on a separate online learning platform, distinct from the full professional programme
  • Opportunity to participate in three exams
  • Opportunity to join a mentorship group for added guidance

Important dates:

  • Registrations open: tbc
  • Registrations close: tbc
  • Offering fee: tbc
  • Offering commences: tbc

Important Notes:

  • While participation in all three exams is strongly recommended, it is not mandatory. However, if you indicate your intention to attend an exam (an email usually goes out about 6 weeks before each exam to confirm your attendance), you will be expected to honour that commitment due to logistical arrangements.
  • Similarly, participation in the mentorship group is encouraged but remains optional (you will be able to select this on the registration form)
  • You cannot register for both; you need to see which option is best suited to you
  • Study groups across the two options are possible, because the case studies for the 3 exams will be the same (PS. we are not able to facilitate specific group arrangements for any exams and the onus will be on the Trainees to arrange this)
  • You will use the letter of successful completion issued by UCT in 2024 or 2025 to write your APC with SAICA in December 2026. No new letter of completion will be issued for the Repeat Offering.

Please note the important information below with regards to you doing your IAC exams with SAICA in 2026 and if you wish to do UCT’s APC Professional Programme in 2026.

You sat for the January 2026 IAC:

  • You need to register for our APC Professional Programme before the closing date
  • You must start with our programme work as soon as it commences
  • You must hold off on payment until you are sure that you have passed your January 2026 IAC
  • Your January 2026 IAC results should be released towards the end of March 2026

Your January 2026 IAC are successful:

  • You need to make payment for our programme as soon as you have received your results
  • You will continue with the programme and all will be in order for you

Your January 2026 IAC are unsuccessful:

  • If wish to cancel your APC registration with us, you need to email us as soon as you receive your results from SAICA to ensure that you or your firm are not liable for any fees/costs
  • If your plan is to reattempt the IAC in June 2026, and you want to continue with our APC Professional Programme, you need to make payment as soon as you receive your results from SAICA

You will be sitting for the June 2026 IAC:

  • Please note that your June results will likely only be available towards the end of August 2026

Your June 2026 IAC results are successful:

  • You will continue with the programme and all will be in order for you

Your June 2026 IAC results are unsuccessful:

  • At this point you would already have done most of our programme and sat for the first Qualifying exam
  • As a result, you will not be eligible to deregister for a refund or defer your payment to 2027
  • You will not be permitted to continue with the 2026 APC Professional Programme
  • Your programme access will automatically be suspended

We would like to clarify that it is possible to sit for both the IAC and APC in the same year. However, we highly encourage that Trainees avoid attempting both the IAC and APC in the same year to ensure the best possible outcome at success.

Please take note of the following important requirements for APC eligibility with SAICA:

  1. Passed your ITC/IAC
  2. Have completed 20 months of your training contract by end November 2026, AND
  3. Have successfully completed our professional programme

Only then will you be eligible to sit for the APC with SAICA on 2 December 2026.
