In January 2012, the University of Cape Town established the College of Accounting, with a clear mandate to become a centre of excellence in professional accounting education.

As part of this mission, the Cape Town Board Course (CTBC), a UCT initiative, offered preparatory courses for the SAICA Qualifying Board Exams. From 2013, these courses were fully integrated into the College of Accounting and rebranded as the UCT Board Course.

This strategic move to present the IAC (formerly ITC) and APC Board Courses under the esteemed banner of the College of Accounting ensures that the program receives the strategic focus and resources it deserves. The UCT Board Course combines over twenty years of experience in preparing trainees for the Initial Test of Competence (formerly Part I of the Qualifying Examination) with an innovative approach to preparing candidates for the Assessment of Professional Competence (the new style Part II) introduced in 2014.

The newly rebranded Professional Programmes and Development suite, tailored to the professional education of trainee chartered accountants, aims to comprehensively prepare candidates for the Qualifying Board Exams while equipping them to make significant contributions to the accounting profession.
