Akona is a senior lecturer at Walter Sisulu University, specialising in Financial Reporting. She completed her B.Com Accounting and Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting (PGDA) at UCT. She completed her articles at, and was appointed senior consultant for, Deloitte in Cape Town.
