Who is the Marketing Association of South Africa?

MASA is the professional body for the South African marketing profession and the representative voice for organisations and individuals within the marketing industry. MASA is the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) recognised professional body responsible for certifying marketers. MASA champions industry ethics, training standards, thought leadership, and connects marketers across the country.

Key functions of MASA include:

  • Governs and manages professional designations (AMSA, MPSA, CMSA)
  • Oversees ethics and standards in marketing practice
  • Facilitates mentorship and continuing professional development (CPD) for marketers
  • Provides thought leadership, advocacy, and industry news

UCT is proud to be a patron member of MASA. In doing so, we DIRECTLY connect our graduates to MASA membership and have an agreement that covers their registration as associate marketers, giving them one full year of access to MASA’s resources, network, and CPD points.

MASA represents the business interests of marketers and promotes professional and ethical marketing practices, the adoption of common standards, self-regulation, and independent and credible marketing industry research. It seeks to provide leadership, support, and mentorship and is the accredited custodian of the Chartered Marketer, Marketing Practitioner, and Associate Marketer designations in South Africa. MASA is active in leading and influencing transformation, policy, legislation, education and training, learning and development, and best practices on marketing and related business issues.

Additional benefits

Our final-year students not only have their MASA registration paid for but also receive complimentary tickets to the annual IMC Conference (online).

Do you want to become a Chartered Marketer?

A CM(SA) is a professional designation (also known as an order qualifier) that separates qualified marketing professionals from the crowd. It signals to employers that you are credible, strategic, and competent. MASA offers three designations that work like career milestones:

  • AMSA (Associate Marketer): Entry-level, conferred on graduation
  • MPSA (Marketing Practitioner): 3–5 years of marketing experience
  • CMSA (Chartered Marketer): 8+ years of strategic-level marketing leadership

CM(SA) write board exams, and moving up the ranks involves submitting evidence and undergoing professional review.

Why this matters

  • Professional recognition by SAQA and industry
  • Demonstrates strategic marketing leadership
  • Improved career prospects and boardroom access
  • Continued learning through CPD
  • Ethical, credible, and respected in your field
