A team from the Department of Information Systems at UCT have made it through to the Middle East and Regional finals of the Microsoft Imagine Cup‚ which culminates in the global finals in Seattle in June. According to their lecturer‚ Dr Maureen Tanner‚ the team of four - Shiraz Amod‚ Alain de Jager‚ Andrew Tainton and Mark Robinson - created a system called me@OpenBox to provide an integrated employee well-being management system for colleagues at Open Box to communicate in a free‚ fun and positive manner as well as enable managers to view "happiness" reports of their team members.

Dr Tanner said: "The winners are very bright young men and it has been a pleasure working with them. Their achievement is remarkable since to make this project a success not only required outstanding software development skills but a strong critical and innovative mindset. Their dedication to the project and perseverance also played a big role in their success. "me@OpenBox is a perfect example of how Information Systems can be used to solve complex business problems and bring business value. They will now be representing South Africa at the Imagine Cup Regional Finals and the entire IS department is behind them. We are truly proud of them!"
