Welcome to the Commerce Faculty at UCT!

Registration opens for new postgraduate students on Wednesday, 24 January 2024.
Please note that registration closes on Wednesday, 07 February 2024.

You should have received an email advising you can proceed with registration. If you have not received an email by Wednesday, 24 January 2024, please email com.registration@uct.ac.za with the following title/subject line on your email: “No activity guide + Student Number”. An administrator will respond when the issue has been resolved.

  1. Download the Postgraduate Student Registration Activity Guide.
  2. Log onto PeopleSoft and use the Postgraduate Student Registration Activity Guide to assist you in completing the steps in the process.
  3. There are three registration modes for postgraduate students: Programme Enrolment (PE), Blank Shopping Cart (BSC) or Pre-populated Shopping Cart (PPSC). When you reach Step 12, your registration method will show at the top of the page.
  4. Download the Postgraduate Curriculum List for your degree.

Purpose and Use of the Curriculum List

The Curriculum List is a guiding document to select your courses. It provides information on items to make it easier for you to search for these on the system at Step 12 of the Registration Activity Guide. The Curriculum List denotes the course code, course title, class numbers, and time/day information to enable you to build your curriculum without clashes. Most students do not need to complete the form or have it signed, as you will do it all on the system. The signature spaces have been included for cases where the department or specific programmes require the form to be used (you will be informed if you need to complete the form).

Important note: Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)/Progress and Planned Activity Report (PPA)

All postgraduate students who are eligible to register for a dissertation must complete the MoU/PPA with their allocated dissertation supervisors before they can complete their registration. The MoU/PPA is completed online, on PeopleSoft, as part of the online registration process. Please download the guide: Completing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)/Progress and Planned Activity (PPA) on PeopleSoft for Students.

A hold will be placed on your registration until the MoU/PPA is approved. You must, therefore, allow adequate time to work with your supervisor to develop your MoU/PPA so that your MoU/PPA block can be removed and your registration can be completed before the registration cut-off date.

Once you have registered, your next step is to ensure you are well-orientated at UCT. The UCT Postgraduate Hub contains useful information for postgraduate students, including funding, rules and regulations.

There are also excellent orientation materials available for new students, including a series of videos on the services available to postgraduate students at UCT.  We encourage you to watch these videos to help you to settle into your postgraduate journey.
