Applicants and Students
Please follow the steps below to reset your password.
- Log on to Self Service Password Reset.
- Click Forgot Password.
- Enter your username/student number in CAPS and click Continue.
- Enter your personal email address and click Continue.
- Check your email inbox, as you will receive an OTP (token).
- Enter the token and set up your new password.
- Sign-out.
When choosing/creating a new password, please adhere to the following requirements:
- Your password must be at least 14 characters long, with no spaces.
- Your password is not case-sensitive.
- Your password can include a mix of letters, special characters, and numbers.
- Your password cannot include text that is easy to guess – such as "123", "abc", or your UCT username.
Please note: It is advisable to clear your cookies and cache before and after completing a password reset.
- Log onto PeopleSoft.
- Click the Admissions tile.
- Select the Admissions Status tab from the menu on the left.
- Your application status will be displayed.
- Log onto PeopleSoft.
- Select the Offers tile.
- Click the Admissions tab. The Accept/Decline an academic offer page opens.
- Click the Accept or Decline offer button.
- Confirm your acceptance or denial of the academic offer by clicking the Yes or No button.
An automated email will be sent to your mailbox once the academic offer is accepted or declined.
The deadline for undergraduate applications was 31 July 2022, and 31 October 2022 for postgraduate applications. We are no longer considering external transfer applications for the 2023 academic year.
All admissions are made based on the admission criteria published in the UCT Undergraduate Prospectus. The faculty does not consider admission appeals.
The deadline for transfer applicants is 31 January 2023. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered. Application outcomes will be sent out by 6 February 2023. For more information regarding transferring, refer to the Transferring Students and Credits page.
Please note the process to follow when applying to transfer to Commerce:
- You must contact either the Faculty Office or a Student Advisor to transfer to Commerce (you will receive guidance on the process from the Faculty Office and academic advice from the Student Advisor).
- The Student Advisor will notify the Faculty Office of their support of your application. Go to the Student Advisors page for contact details for each discipline/department.
- You need to complete a Change of Curriculum ACA09 form
- Send the completed ACA09 form and your transcript to comfm@uct.ac.za with the following title/subject line on your email: CAMPUSID Transfer application. The name of the Student Advisor you consulted must be included in the body of the e-mail.
- The Faculty Manager and the Deputy Dean have the final authority to approve or reject the transfer.
Registration
Please email com.registration@uct.ac.za, and an administrator will check and let you know your academic standing.

The faculty will provide you with further information via email. You cannot register until you have cleared your fee debt. You will, however, be given third-party Vula access to your courses so you can attend until you clear your debt and can register. Please wait for email instructions and do not attempt to register until you have received an email.
If you were on medical LOA, you need to submit a request to return to the fit-for-study panel fitforstudy@uct.ac.za (the deadline to submit applications to return was 6 January 2023). If you were on non-medical LOA, you must email comfm@uct.ac.za (the deadline to submit a request to return was 6 January but has been extended – for non-medical LOA only – to 10 February 2023).
Please consult the Commerce Undergraduate Handbook and select a programme you would like to register for, then contact a Student Advisor for that programme. Go to the Student Advisors page for contact details for each discipline/department. If you are still unsure which programme you qualify for, contact a Student Advisor in your current home department.
The RAC meeting is scheduled for 2 to 3 February 2023. Your outcome will be sent on Monday, 6 February 2023.
The staff member reviewing your registration will pick this up and return the registration request. Please be patient and keep checking your Peoplesoft WorkCentre. Once returned, read the comment, and submit a new registration request.
- Log onto PeopleSoft.
- Select the Academic Records tile and then select Proof of Registration (from the menu on the left)
- Choose the academic year for which you need proof of registration, then click the Email button.
- The confirmation email will default to your studentnumber@myuct.ac.za email address.
Check your junk mail or trash folder if you have not received an email after 10-15 minutes. The confirmation email is sent from a no-reply address, which may be considered spam.
Go to the Student Advisors page for contact details for each discipline/department.
This is a registration error due to some classes being full or a timetable error. The Faculty Office is cycling through the errors student by student and will add you manually to override the registration error. If your registration is still incorrect 48 hours after you have registered, email com.registration@uct.ac.za with the following title “incorrect registration capture + student number”.

Curriculum change week starts on 13 February and ends on 17 February 2023. You need to complete a Change of Curriculum ACA09 form. Your form must be submitted on PeopleSoft using the Service Request function (please note this is different from your registration mode – BSC).

International Students
You can Pre-register by logging onto PeopleSoft and submitting a service request for pre-registration.

To complete your pre-registration, you must create a service request for your Immigration documents and Proof of Payment documents.
The hold will only be removed when both service requests are Received and Accepted. After the hold has been removed and you have successfully pre-registered, you can proceed with your registration task.

Students in taught programmes who cannot produce a valid visa by the end of the first week of the academic term (17 February 2023) are unable to register with Commerce for the first semester as all undergraduate and postgraduate students (in taught programmes such as Honours and Postgraduate Diplomas) are required to be on campus. Please email the Faculty Office as soon as you have your visa, and we may be able to assist with second-semester courses, but there is no late start for the first semester.
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)/Progress and Planned Activity Report (PPA)
Once your MoU/PPA status has been updated to Finalised, the MoU/PPA process is complete, and the hold will be removed. You will then be able to proceed with your registration.
Email uctcompg@uct.ac.za to assist with creating or updating a Supervisor’s Administrator Profile and linking the supervisor to your student profile.
Email uctcompg@uct.ac.za to assist with changing the order of the supervisors.
If your university is not listed, please select Foreign University, or use 1006013 as the Academic Org Code.
You will not be able to edit or change your MoU/PPA once it has been finalised.
