WAVE 2: CALLING PEOPLE WHO SMOKED CIGARETTES BEFORE THE LOCKDOWN:  HOW HAS THE BAN ON TOBACCO SALES AFFECTED YOUR SMOKING BEHAVIOUR?

The Research Unit on the Economics of Excisable Products (REEP) is conducting a second wave of its study on people’s responses to the ban on the sales of cigarettes. The results of the first wave (conducted between 29 April and 11 May 2020) are available at www.reep.uct.ac.za.

We call on all people living in South Africa who smoked cigarettes in the week before the ban became effective (27 March 2020) to assist us by completing the following survey available at:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/UCTall

This survey is open to cigarette smokers who completed the first survey AND to cigarette smokers who did not complete the first survey. We want to understand how you have responded to the cigarette sales ban, particularly since it has been extended to lockdown level 3.

Participation in this survey is voluntary, and all your answers will be treated as anonymous. It will take around 5 minutes to complete. This survey has been approved by the Ethics in Research Committee of the Commerce Faculty at the University of Cape Town.

All persons who complete the questionnaire will be eligible to win one of 10 Takealot vouchers valued at R500 each.

If you have any questions about the survey, please email tobaccoeecon@gmail.com.
